CHEERS TO THE YATES!
ILLUSTRATION. DESIGN SYSTEM. PRODUCTION.
One for the books.
When my oldest, dearest friend asked if I’d be interested in creating some signage for her wedding I immediately said YES!
This gorgeous custom system was inspired by a few sweet things:
Wilson Peak, located in Colorado’s northwestern San Juan Mountains, seen from Ana & Rich’s venue
The bride’s beautiful love of florals, especially lupines
And their handsome boys Huck & Sue
Some photos included across this page were captured by the incredible Jordan Quinn
Getting started.
When Ana came to me with this project, she mentioned a few things she wanted to have for her big day.
Production included a welcome sign, table numbers, seating chart, and a signature cocktail sign, to name a few. Visual inspiration, specifically the color palette and watercolor medium, came from her save the date invitation.
The process.
After some question asking, detail finalizing, and additional ideation, next steps included watercolors. A few iterations later, it was time to bring that painting onto my computer. From there I was able to color correct a few things, dialing in on the exact color scheme Ana desired.
After the art was finalized, next came production. Prepress included file preparation and proofing, press included actual printing with lots and lots of test printing. Since I had spent so much time perfecting the color scheme on screen, I didn’t want to lose that look and feel once on paper. I navigated through this process by working closely with a printer and explaining my goals. Once all prints were finalized, it was time for post-press, including cutting (and tearing) a few edges to get the exact look the bride wanted.
The final designs.
The final system came to life exactly as expected. It was incredible to celebrate these two and see the final assets flourish on Ana & Rich’s big day!
It was an honor and a privilege to be a part of your love story. Love you both.
